Nnedi Okorafor’s work shows why The Guardian recently called Africa “the new home of science fiction”. Born in the US but with strong ties to Nigeria, Okorafor melds traditional folk tales with timeless settings in a style being called “magic futurism”. Often stark, always evocative, her stories (including latest novel Lagoon) have attracted admirers from Ursula Le Guin to cultural critic Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o.

Okorafor will be in conversation with writer Tina Makereti.
