Born on Britain’s Isle of Wight, son and grandson of prison wardens, Patrick Gale has never had a “proper” job, but has instead written 15 novels, all known for their acuity, heart and soul. 

In Wellington for the first time, he will talk with Victoria University of Wellington Professor of English Jane Stafford about his work, including latest novel A Place Called Winter — an elegy to forbidden love lives, and the disappeared, based on a mystery in his family’s past.
